Ask AI Conversations
Ask AI is Sundown's conversation view for asking questions about your saved notes.
Where to find it
- Open the
Asktab. - Tap
Ask AIto start a new conversation, or open an existing conversation from the list.
What it does
- Lets you ask a question in everyday language about your saved notes.
- Uses the AI option selected in Settings.
- Saves the conversation so you can reopen it later.
- Syncs saved conversations through your Sundown account when cloud sync is on.
Choose what the AI looks at
Before sending a question, choose how much history Sundown looks back at:
TodayLast 7 daysLast 30 daysOne dayPick dates
One day lets you choose one saved day. Pick dates lets you choose a custom
start and end date. Follow-up questions keep the same look-back range by
default, but you can change it before sending the next turn.
What gets shared
- Sundown uses saved day content from the dates you selected.
- Sundown does not use daily summaries as Ask AI context.
- Sundown trims selected content before sending it to the AI option you chose.
- If your selected AI option runs off-device, Sundown shows a disclosure before the first message in that conversation.
The conversation itself is saved locally first, even if the chosen AI option runs remotely.
What you see
- A
Conversationsbrowser with an empty state the first time you open it. - A transcript view with your questions and Sundown's answers.
- A bottom composer with the current
Look backcontrol. - A compact
Based onsection or day chips under answers when source dates are available.
Tap a source date to open the matching Daily View.
Where conversations live
If you use GitHub export, conversation files are written as readable Markdown copies. If you stay on the default Sundown Cloud path, you can reopen the conversation inside Sundown without managing files yourself.
Limits to keep in mind
- Ask AI answers are only as complete as the saved notes in the chosen date range.
- If the selected AI option is unavailable, Sundown keeps the question in the thread and saves a plain-language failure answer instead of dropping the turn.
- Source links currently point back to journal days, not individual captures.
